 10 pm\nSaturday, October 18th, 10 am - 10 pm\nMartin Luther King Student
Center\n(Corner of Telegraph Avenue & Bancroft Way)\n\nADMISSION IS
FREE\n\nThe 1964 Civil Rights Act stands as a major signpost in the long
and arduous\nstruggle for equality and inclusion in American social,
political, and\neconomic life. However, its adoption did not mean the end
of the struggle\nand ample evidence can be gleaned from the daily press to
illustrate the\nunending nature of the collective quest for equality in
America.\n\nThe decades of the 1990's and the newly declared "War on
Terrorism" have\nbrought about an erosion of Civil Rights not seen in any
other period, which\nif left unchallenged will lead to greater long-term
harm. The same forces\nthat attack Affirmative Action and diversity are
also involved in developing\nways and means to reverse civil rights gains
under the banner of the "War on\nTerrorism" and "National
Security."\n\nJoin activists, educators, and civil rights organizations in
a two-day\nconference intended to explore the state of Civil Rights at the
doors of the\n21st Century. As talk of empire is increasing, the citizenry
must rise up\nto meet the new but certainly old challenges and provide a
platform for a\ncollective approach to the defense of civil
rights.\n\nCONFIRMED SPEAKERS:\nProf. Agha Saeed, American Muslim
