DESCRIPTION:David Barsamian and Eyad Kishawi: How to win Liberation in the Middle
 East\n\nA tribute to Dr. Edward Said\n\nSaturday, October 18th @ 2pm\n\n110
Capp St (between 16th and 17th) (Capp is one block east of Mission
St.)\n\nSponsored by Haymarket Books and the International Socialist
 Organization\n\n~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~\n\nIf you cannot sanction
terror against a hapless populace, if your humanity is outraged by the
suffering and oppression of an entire people, if you are indignated by
unbridled imperialism and shameless coercion, if your heart has ever hurt
at the suffering of innocent children, if you agree it is an absurdity that
over a quarter of children born in an historically fertile land are
suddenly malnourished, if you are against apartheid, racism, collective
punishment, dehumanization, extra judicial killings, and the indiscriminate
inaction unimaginable horrors upon the feeble, the old, the weak and the
young,\n\nIf you think freedom and liberty are the inalienable birthrights
of every human being...\n\nThen you know that this is not only the story of
the current occupation of Iraq.\n\n~~~~~~~~\n\nCome hear David Barsamian on
how to continue the struggle for the liberation of Palestine in the great
tradition of the late Dr. Edward Said.\n\nAn outspoken critic of Israeli
aggression in Palestine, Dr. Said spent a lifetime educating people about
the plight of the Palestinian people and exposing the lies and the
doublespeak of the Israeli and the Palestinian establishment. For decades
he was writing, traveling, lecturing, a presence, almost a force of nature,
an echo in a void of spirit and compassion. Dr. Said's extraordinary
commitment to justice for the Palestinian people immensely helped bring to
the world the Palestinian peoples' narrative of tragedy, struggle, and
hope, despite overwhelming odds. David Barsamian's prolific history as an
author includes two book-length interviews with Dr. Said, The Pen and the
Sword, and his most recent publication, Culture and Resistance.\n\nDavid
Barsamian is the founder and director of Alternative Radio and the winner
of the ACLU's 2003 Upton Sinclair Award for independent journalism. A radio
producer, author and lecturer, Mr. Barsamian has been widely lauded and
named as one of the Institute of Alternative Journalism's "Top Ten Media
Heroes". Mr. Barsamian is well-known for his many interviews with Noam
Chomsky: Chronicles of Dissent, Keeping the Rabble in Line, The Prosperous
Few and the Restless Many, Propaganda and the Public Mind, and Class
Warfare. He is currently working on a book with Arundhati Roy as well as
one featuring his interviews in The Progressive.\n\nMr. Barsamian will be
accompanied by Eyad Kishawi from the Free Palestine Alliance and ANSWER.
Mr. Kishawi will be leading a discussion on the current state of the
imperialist occupation of Iraq and Palestine and how activists can get
involved in the national protests to be held on October 25th in San
Francisco and Washington DC.\n\nThe ISO and Free Palestine Alliance support
the call by ANSWER and United For Peace and Justice for the October 25th
demonstrations against these imperialist occupations. Come find out how you
can get involved in helping to build and publicize this mass
protest!\n\n\nFREE PALESTINE! FREE IRAQ! U.S. OUT OF THE MIDDLE EAST!\n\n
