DESCRIPTION:For Immediate Release:\n\nPOESY Issue 22 Release Reading\n\nSANTA CRUZ, 
 CA… Don’t be afraid to step forward, look it in the eye, and ask it to 
 dance with your mind. It is a two-step with words stimulating a true face 
 of artistic impression. It is poetry. On Saturday, October 25th, Poesy 
 Magazine will be dancing with words at the Central Branch of the Santa Cruz 
 Public Library. The editors have decided to host a poetry and open mic 
 reading celebrating the release of its 22nd issue since its debut in 
 1991.\n\nPresent and past Poesy poets will be reading during the afternoon 
 in honor and support of the free press. Many of the poets featured in Poesy 
 are best characterized by Robert Peters (nationally known poet – critic 
 – dramatist) as: “a special outsider group of powerful and original 
 American poets largely ignored by Poetry Establishment forces.” This 
 group is presenting poetry that is free to roam several avenues of creative 
 expression straying from the binding walls of academia into the 
 neighborhoods of modern man.\n\nThere will be an hour of Open Mic poetry 
 following the Poesy features. Poets of all nature are encouraged to sign up 
 and join the celebration.\n\nPoet Linda Lerner was interviewed in this 
 issue of Poesy. Linda Lerner was born and educated in New York City. Robert 
 Peters also notes, “Linda Lerner should be one of the most visible of our 
 poets in this country. She loves the open form, and works in a tradition of 
 Ginsberg, Charles Plymel, the Beats, and has quzzled much from Charles 
 Bukowski. She edited an on-line anthology, POETS on the line the first 
 poetry anthology available on the net. Issues six and seven, Vietnam 
 Veterans / Poets, was the recipient of a 1997 Puffin Foundation Grant and a 
 Ludwig Vogelstein Foundation Grant. Her work has appeared in hundreds of 
 journals throughout the country. Among them; The New York Quarterly, The 
 Christian Science Monitor, Slipstream, Home Planet News, Chiron Review, 
 Atom Mind, The Maverick Press.”\n\nPoesy is a publication which was noted 
 as "the best idea in the small press for 2001" by poetry critic, Timothy 
 Scannell. The idea of narrowing the focus to East and West Coast poetry 
 came after (the editor) Brian Morrisey’s relocation to Santa Cruz from a 
 Boston suburb in 1999. He noticed a vast difference in poetics between the 
 two coasts. He explains his focus as, "there are huge gaps of communication 
 between the two sides of the country. I’m working on filling them in."
