programs across the nation for children who have or had a parent with
cancer. This is achieved by recruiting and training groups of college
students to build self-sustaining Camp Kesem projects on their campuses.
The first camp of this kind was created at Stanford in 2000, and is now
being replicated on campuses across the nation.\nCamp Kesem National is
already working with three new campuses – Duke, Notre Dame, and
Washington University in St. Louis. Duke and Notre Dame will held their
first camp sessions in this summer of 2003 and Washington University will
open its camp in summer 2005. Stanford held its third camp session this
summer. Camp Kesem National plans to have two additional campuses launch
Camp Kesem projects each year.\nThe first Camp Kesem project was created
because students at Stanford discovered that children who have or had a
parent with cancer comprise an under-served population of children in need.
Based on the success of that Camp Kesem project, Camp Kesem national was
formed to share this service-learning project model with college campuses
across the nation. Camp Kesem National was incorporated as a California
non-profit in the winter of 2003.\nIris Rave, Executive Director of Camp
Kesem national is the visionary behind the student-lead camp model. It is
her work with Stanford students and sequentially in the founding of the
Camp Kesem National organization that is bringing these magical
opportunities to the children and the parents throughout the United States
who are living with cancer.\nVision: A nation where all children who have
or had a parent with cancer enjoy the opportunity to attend a college
student-run summer camp with peers facing similar challenges in their
community.\nMission: To provide college students across the nation with the
tools and support necessary to create self-sustaining summer camp programs
for children who have or had a parent with cancer.\n\n\n
