DESCRIPTION:FCC attacks microradio station San Francisco Liberation Radio 93.7FM! Issue
threats of $17,000 fines and time in Prison! Call the Supervisors and
demand they pass a resolution in support of SFLR 93.7 and instruct the
police to not cooperate with the FCC!\n\nCALL YOUR SUPERVISORS! COME TO THE
BOARD OF SUPERVISORS MEETING TUESDAY @ 2PM AND THEN THE STEPS OF CITY HALL
(Polk St. Side)TO PRESSURE THE SUPES TO SUPPORT SAN FRANCISCO LIBERATION
RADIO 93.7FM!\nCome to the Board of Supervisors meeting to demand the Supes
to make a formal statement in support of freedom in media in general and
SFLR 93.7FM in particular! Make a statement in the public comment period or
just hold up a sign.\n\nSan Francisco Liberation Radio 93.7 FM has been
broadcasting for ten\nyears now. Basing our authority to broadcast on the
right to freely\nspeak and the rights of individuals to have access to a
free and\ndiverse media, we have defied the FCC and brought the people of
San\nFrancisco a resource that is truly available to those who wish to
use\nit. The station moved across town one year ago last May Day and\nsince
then we have received no word from the FCC, until now.\n\nLast Wednesday at
about 5pm federal agents came and delivered a\n"notice of illegal
broadcasting". They were denied entry\nalthough they threatened up to a
$17,000 fine and time in jail. We\nhave ten days to show them either a
permit or "authority"\nto broadcast. We have been trying to get the San
Francisco Board of\nSupervisors to pass a resolution in support of SFLR and
Bay View\nHunter's Point Radio 103.3, but have made limited headway. We
hope\nthat this latest visit will be the impetus needed for them to pass
a\nresolution in support of freedom in media.\n\nEspecially now, with the
new (de)regulations having just been passed\nin the Federal Communications
Commission and the media becoming more\nand more homogenous, we need to
show the FCC that this is an issue\nworth fighting for. A free and diverse
media is not a thing of\ntheoretical importance; it is an absolute
necessity for a healthy\ndemocracy! Call your Supervisor! Tell them that
this is an issue\nyou care about and they should support a resolution
backing San\nFrancisco Liberation Radio 93.7FM and Bay View Hunter's Point
Radio\n103.3FM against an overbearing FCC with only the health and wealth
 of\nCorporate Media at heart!\n\nJake McGoldrick District 1\n(415)554-7410
