DESCRIPTION:Speaker: Laura Donohue\nTitle: Civic Defense: War, terrorism, and our
eroding civil liberties\n\nCost: Free\nSponsor: Peninsula Peace and Justice
Center \n\nLaura Donohue is a Visiting Fellow at the Center for
International Security and Cooperation at Stanford University. At PPJC’s
June Forum, she will discuss the counter-terrorism legislation passed by
the U.S. Congress over the last two years and illuminate the problems
inherent in introducing supposedly temporary draconian measures to
counteract a nebulous and ineradicable threat. Donohue has done extensive
research on counter-terrorism laws and writes and speaks frequently about
the dangers to our civil liberties posed by the USA PATRIOT Act and other
measures that have been passed or proposed since September 11, 2001.\n\nThe
program will be broadcast live on Community Cable Channel 28 and
rebroadcast throughout the month: Wednesdays at 11:05 pm on Channel 28 and
Sundays at 12:30 pm on Channel 27. It is part of the ongoing “Other
Voices” television series produced by Peninsula Peace and Justice Center.
