DESCRIPTION:This play is not your high school English class project, it is a
passionate,\nurgent cry for help for a community in crisis.\n\nArthur
Miller's classic parable of mass hysteria draws a chilling
parallel\nbetween the Salem witch-hunt of 1692 - 'one of the strangest and
most awful\nchapters in human history' - and the American anti-communist
purges led by\nSenator McCarthy in the 1950s. The story of how the small
community of Salem is\nstirred into madness by superstition, paranoia and
malice, culminating in a\nviolent climax, is a savage attack on the evils
of mindless persecution and the\nterrifying power of false
accusations.\n\nA depiction of innocent men and women destroyed by
malicious rumor, The Crucible is also a powerful indictment of McCarthyism
and the 'frontier mentality' of Cold War America or now.\nThese themes
still resonate today and need to be told by this passionate young and
diverse performing company from CCSF Theatre Arts.\n\nPlaywright Arthur
Miller\nArthur Miller Is recognized for his popular and award-winning
plays, produced\naround the world.\n\nIn 1965 he was the first American
elected president of International PEN, for his\nwork supporting free
speech and fighting censorship, as well as encouraging\ntranslations for
literature to travel beyond borders. In 2005 PEN America\nestablished the
annual Arthur Miller Freedom to Write Lecture to honor his\nlifelong
commitment. Miller’s decades-long activism against wrongful
conviction\nand capital punishment continues to inspire criminal justice
reform and continues\nto inspire the public & artists seeking to make an
 impact.\n https://www.indybay.org/newsitems/2025/04/06/18875263.php
