DESCRIPTION:A free walking tour exploring the intersection of real estate and social
issues\nA survey of social movements illustrating private control of land
values is oppression\n\nThe proposal: treat land values as 100% community
revenue.\nThe efficiency reason: it'll abolish land speculation, whilst
enabling the diminution of taxes upon work.\nThe moral argument: nobody has
a superior right to use the Earth over anyone else.\n\nTo be fair, YIMBY
folk do talk about this; however, it has little traction there. The result,
to date, is that YIMBY says, "Yes, build housing in my back yard AND pay me
the land rent as passive income."\n\nMeanwhile, NIMBY says, "It's my back
yard, and you can't build in it."\n\nThis walk proposes that the value of
the back yard belongs to society, and the rent of that location should be
returned to society. The result: both YIMBYist and NIMBYist have to pay
society for the backyard whether it's used or not. The NIMBYist can keep it
empty but must pay it's market rent, and the YIMBYist can chuckle as NIMBY
land owners pay through the nose to superficially remain privileged
nobility.\n\nOne thing is for sure: land values will pay for social
programs, thus connecting renters and land owners alike with location.\n
