Forty-six Palestinian journalists have been reported to have been killed by Israeli Defense Forces since 2000, hundreds more have been injured or imprisoned. The United Nations Human Rights Office, along with the Washington Post, CNN and Associate Press, all conclude that Palestinian American journalist Shireen Abu Akleh was shot in the head by an IDF soldier as she was covering military operations outside of the Jenin refugee camp. Abu Akleh, a 25-year veteran reporter for Al Jazeera, was wearing a blue jacket with the word “PRESS” written large on it when she was killed and her cameraman was wounded.
