DESCRIPTION:Some might call into question the San Francisco Unified School District's
curriculum given that nowhere in the k-12 learning objectives is there even
a whiff of the district's finest teacher's learning outcomes legacy.
\n\nKate Kennedy--she who in 1873 set the world-wide precedent for equal
pay for women, and who established the city's first teachers union and
pension program, and who secured tenure for public employees--is
scandalously forgotten by the District, by the United Educators of San
Francisco, and by the Board of Trustees in this present edition of
budgetary crisis, with Receivership a palpable (and some would say actual
mercy for the populace) possibility. You see, Kate Kennedy introduced in
her classroom the spirit-building, small business-loving, and genuine
citizenship-affirming notion that the Earth was the proper inheritance of
every one of her students. And she gave that notion teeth by suggesting as
a congruent piece of public policy that all location values (otherwise
known as land values) rightfully belong as a funding source for public
programming, including public education.\n\nThe only funding problem the
SFUSD has is one of spiritual integrity. Were the curriculum anchored in a
"The Earth is the birthright of all our school children" resolve, there
would be no shortage of funding for school programming in a city with such
fabulously high land values as San Francisco's.\n\nCome along on a free
walking tour exploring the intersection of real estate and social justice.
All members of the Board of Trustees, both those subject to recall and
those who remain safely part of the State-strictured board are cordially
invited to get woke before 8 am this Saturday and attend the 9 am start.\n
