the SCLC of Southern California as we come together for three days of
education, community, and action to advance voter rights as we celebrate
Juneteenth and honor\nFreedom Summer civil rights activists James Chaney,
Andrew Goodman, and\nMichael Schwerner on the 57th anniversary of their
murders.\n\nIn 1964, these three young Civil Rights activists were murdered
while organizing Black People to register to vote in Mississippi, and
nearly 57 years later, in response to the historic voter turnout of Black,
Indigenous, and People of Color in the 2020 election cycle, state
legislatures across the country are passing laws that will restrict the
voting rights of these communities.\n\nLet's honor the memory of Chaney,
Goodman, and Schwerner by protecting and strengthening voter rights. It is
imperative that there are federal protections to preserve all Americans'
right to vote.\n\nCongress must pass the John Lewis Voting Rights
Advancement Act, and the For the People Act of 2021. We want to invite you
to help us plan events to remember these young organizers, renew our
commitment to justice for ALL, and work to restore the Voting Rights Act of
 1965.\n\n\n3 DAY CONFERENCE SCHEDULE:\n\nREMEMBER:\n\nSaturday, June 19th -

equal say in our future.\n\n2PM-5PM Film screening and discussion:

Southern Christian Leadership Conference of Southern
 California\n\nhttps://www.facebook.com/sclcsocal/about/\n\nThe Southern
Christian Leadership Conference is a civil rights organization\nwith
chapters across the United States, including the SCLC of Southern
California.\nThe Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. served as the
organization's first president.\n\nThe very beginnings of the SCLC can be
traced back to the Montgomery Bus Boycott against the segregation of Black
Americans. The Montgomery Bus Boycott began on December 5, 1955 after Rosa
Parks was arrested for refusing to give up her seat to a white man on the
bus.\n\nSCLC is a now a nation wide organization made up of chapters and
affiliates with programs that affect the lives of all Americans: north,
south, east and west. Its sphere of influence and interests has become
international in scope because the human rights movement transcends
 national
 boundaries.\n_____________________________________________________________
