DESCRIPTION:The Sierra Club’s Green Friday meets on the second Friday of the month in
the Sierra Club’s Bay Chapter Office, 2530 San Pablo Ave. Berkeley. Doors
open at 7:00 p.m.; the program runs from 7:30 to 9:00 including questions
and discussion. Refreshments are served. A $3 donation is requested. Our
programs present speakers and topics discussing the important environmental
issues of our time. \nAll are welcome, Sierra Club members as well as
nonmembers. \n\nOn November 8, 2019 Helen Stoltzfus will share her
Dispatches from a Wild and Secret Country: What My Mennonite Ancestors and
the Gobi Bear Taught Me About Surviving the Climate Emergency.\n\nHelen
Stoltzfus’ combination performance piece/science talk/call to action
weaves stories of her Mennonite ancestors, her trip to Mongolia to track
the rare Gobi bear, and - importantly - outlines specific acts we can take
now to preserve our planet. \n\nHelen is a climate activist and long-time
Bay Area theatre director, playwright, and performer. She is co-artistic
director of Black Swan Arts & Media, an Oakland-based organization that
creates and produces original performance events.
