DESCRIPTION:When a nation-wide uprising breaks out in the Occupied Palestinian
Territories, a young woman in Gaza must make a choice between love, family,
and freedom. She embraces all three, joining a clandestine network of women
in a movement that forces the world to recognize the Palestinian right to
self-determination for the first time. \n\nNaila and the Uprising
chronicles the journey of Naila Ayesh and a fierce community of women on
the front lines, whose stories weave through the most vibrant, nonviolent
mobilization in Palestinian history - the First Intifada in the late
1980s.\n\nThis film brings out of anonymity these courageous women
activists. We remember how women-led civil resistance can stir the masses,
put pressure on power-holders, and affect real structural change. Directed
 by award-winning filmmaker Julia Bacha.\n\nFor International Women's Day! A
local Palestinian activist panel will speak briefly after the
 film.\n\nTICKETS $15, $25, $50, and at the door -- Benefit for MECA\n\n"In
'Naila and the Uprising," female activists are not shiny aberrations--they
are the unseen spine holding up a movement."-- The Daily Beast\n\nWatch
