 art. Is it to create beauty and make pleasing, soothing, color-coordinated 
 decorations for living room walls, or is there a more serious and important 
 reason to make pictures? In an effort to answer these questions Colwell has 
 produced artworks that have been described as “necessary,” 
 “important,” “unique,” “powerful,” “controversial,” 
 “challenging,” “penetrating,” “devastating.” Colwell’s work 
 falls into three main groups; Social Realism, Surrealistic animal 
 encounters and pure animal paintings. All three have a social or political
