DESCRIPTION:Sunday Morning at the Marxist Library\n\nSailing for a Nuclear-Free World\n
In 1958, a 30 ft wooden ketch with a crew of pacifists tried to sail into
the nuclear test zone in the Pacific to prevent atmospheric nuclear weapons
testing. The Coast Guard intervened and arrested the crew, but their
courage ignited a movement that led to the nuclear test ban treaty. That
ketch was named The Golden Rule, and it began a long tradition of direct
action on the high seas including the Phoenix of Hiroshima, Greenpeace, the
Sea Shepherds, and the Gaza Freedom Flotilla.\n Now fully restored by
Veterans for Peace, The Golden Rule is making waves again as it sails the
globe to spread the word about the continuing dangers of nuclear war. This
September, the Golden Rule will visit the Bay Area as the first stop on its
voyage to Hawaii, Guam, Okinawa, Korea, and Japan with its message of a
world free of nuclear weapons. (See other side for info.)\n\nSun, Sept 16,
2018 – 10:30am-12:30pm \n6501 Telegraph Ave, Oakland (just North of
