DESCRIPTION:March 30, Friday, 7 p.m. Movie Night -Freedom Riders, Threatened, attacked,
jailed...would YOU get on the bus? Freedom Riders (2011) is the powerful
and inspiring story of six months in 1961 when more than 400 black and
white Americans risked their lives by deliberately violating Jim Crow
segregation laws. They heroically went into segregated bus terminals and
used "whites-only" restrooms and lunch counters in Alabama, South Carolina
and other Southern states.\n\nThey stood up to savage beatings by the Ku
Klux Klan, often aided by the cops. In Alabama, Klansmen attacked and
firebombed a Greyhound bus, slashing the tires and holding the doors shut,
intending to burn the riders to death. When riders exited, they were beaten
with baseball bats, iron pipes and bicycle chains.\n\nDirected by
award-winning filmmaker Stanley Nelson featuring testimony from the Riders
themselves, government officials, and journalists who witnessed the Rides
 firsthand.\n\n https://www.indybay.org/newsitems/2018/03/25/18807857.php
