DESCRIPTION:Celebrate Women's History Month with the PSL! Join us for a study group of
the latest issue of Breaking the Chains magazine, Outrage and Optimism:
Women Confront Imperialism, as well as a potluck social and drum-making
session. \n\nThe women’s movement has often been divided over the
question of imperialism. There are sectors of the women's movement that
call for U.S. intervention in other countries based on the premise of
liberating the women of those countries. Others support sanctions rather
than war and ignore the fact that sanctions are a weapon that hurts the
entire population of the targeted country. The idea that war or other forms
of intervention can liberate women is pure fantasy. \n\nIn this issue of
Breaking the Chains, we establish an argument grounded in Marxist theory
for why the women’s movement and feminists must stand in solidarity with
the people of the world who are confronting imperialism. Our approach is
based on our analysis of the balance of forces in the class struggle that
wages daily across the globe; it addresses many of the facets of
imperialist war and policies within this framework. In this issue, we
investigated the environmental impacts of war and domination through the
experiences of women in Vietnam and Puerto Rico. We cover the history of a
battle fought by the Vietnamese resistance against the French at Dien Bien
Phu that holds lessons for today’s struggle. We address the difference
between capitalism and socialism in terms of foreign policy.\n\nThis issue
also includes:\n\n- Marxist analysis on the politics of women, war, and
imperialism\n- Biography of Cuban revolutionary Vilma Espín\n- Interview
with independent journalist Abby Martin\n- Imperialist intervention and
resistance in Latin America\n- How neoliberalism impacts the education of
girls in Africa\n\nJoin us! Bring a dish to share if you can, but not
 required. Wheelchair accessible. \n
