DESCRIPTION:Walk - San Francisco General Strike of 1934\nJoin the walk with Gifford
Hartman and others.\n Eighty-three years ago at this location, a great
battle took place by workers and residents of San Francisco against the
police and National Guard. \n We will look at the causes of the 1934
General Strike and why it was successful. How was the strike organized and
why are the issues from that strike still relevant to working people today?
We will also view some of the key historical sites in this important US
labor struggle. \n\nLaborfest began in 1994 to commemorate the 1934 general
strike that made San Francisco a union town, and together with the 1934
General Strikes in Minneapolis and Toledo, made possible in 1935, the
passage of the Social Security and Unemployment Insurance Act, and the
legalizing of the right to organize labor unions with the Wagner Act. See
