DESCRIPTION:Join us for an afternoon of Stockton Juneteenth Heritage to tour the
proposed area toward establishing a National Historic Park within the
Historic Stockton Waterfront District \n\nThe City of Stockton is named
after Commodore Robert Field Stockton, first Military Governor for Alta
California, his grandfather, John Stockton, donated land to create Princton
University, New Jersey, his father Richard Stockton was one of 56 to sign
the United States Declaration of Independence. \n\nIn 1846, the Historic
Stockton Waterfront District began as an amazing regional transportation
hub. During the California Gold Rush, the City of Stockton was formally
established, July 9, 1850. \n\nToday, the renaissance of the heart of the
California Central Valley looks to our preserve our golden historical
legacy. The signifigant contributions by Stockton residents of African
ancestry (1840-1875) helped to postively impacted the region, state, nation
and the world. \n\nRev. Jeremiah King, Rev. Reverend Virgil Campbell and
Rev. Jeremiah Burke Sanderson helped create a strong and fertile Stockton
Waterfront District Community, in partnership Capt. Charles Weber. \n\nMany
diverse members of the City of Stockton pioneer families lived together in
the Stockton Waterfront District. A number of faith-based communities
established churches to solidify the early Stockton Waterfront. \n\nBoth
free and enslaved people of African Ancestry were apart of the tapestry
being woven to develop the essential elements of the early City of Stockton
at the dawn of the US Civil War. \n\nSharing our Stockton Juneteenth story
is part of our profound national journey towards freedom.\n\nTogether, we
highlight the contributions by early residents of the City of Stockton who
impacted the entire United States of America. \n\nOur Stockton Juneteenth
Symposium and Heritage Tour will begin official effort to bring global
cultural toursm and national preservation experts to the heart of the
California Central Valley, come and join our unique celebration of freedom.
