DESCRIPTION:Is This Fascism?\nSunday, May 7, 1-4 PM\nUniversity of San Francisco\nFromm
Hall, Berman room\nEnter Campus from Parker Street almost at
McAllister\nFromm Hall is on your immediate left.\nSee map at
 https://goo.gl/maps/dPG1mooAtjQ2\n\nWe're seeing many disturbing
developments : passengers dragged off commercial planes, racist mobs
battling in Berkeley, the US Attorney General halting Justice Department
actions against racist police brutality, ICE officials taking children from
immigrant women in detention, Muslims and immigrants attacked on the
streets. Many of us wonder if we are slipping into fascism or perhaps
already there.\n\nIs This Fascism? What is fascism? What brings it on?
Are the economics and politics of Europe in the 1930s relevant? Would the
US history of genocide and slavery make US fascism something new? How can
we get millions to fight fascism? Who are our friends and allies in
fighting fascism?\n\nJoin a panel of guests to discuss these and related
questions among themselves and with the audience\n\n* Stephen Zunes:
University of SF Professor of Politics and International Studies and
\nGlobal Peace and Conflict Studies\n\n* Gerald Smith: Former Black
Panther, Organizer for Oscar Grant Committee Against Police Brutality and
the Labor Committee to Free Mumia\n\n* Reiko Redmonde: Manager of
Revolution Books in Berkeley, and an activist with Refuse Fascism.\n\n*
Steve Martinot: Author, human rights activist, has taught several courses
on fascism\n\n* James Dahlgren: Toxicologist and internist,
Unitarian-Universalist Church San Jose.\n\nThere will be an extensive
Question/Answer/Comment period with the audience after the presentations by
the panelists. Please join us.\n\nThis is the third in a series of
political discussions at the University of San Francisco. The November
19th forum focused on where power resides in the US, with Laurence Shoup,
Peter Dale Scott, David Talbot and others. The March 5th forum focused on
foreign policy under Trump, with Stephen Zunes, Reese Ehrlich, and
others.\n \nInitial Presenter: Gray Panthers of San Francisco.
