DESCRIPTION:Slain HSU Student to be Remembered at Prayer Service Tonight, Vigil on
 Thursday\n\nHumboldt State University release: \n \nHumboldt State
University’s Cultural Centers for Academic Excellence will host a prayer
service for healing in remembrance of David Josiah Lawson tonight, April
18, from 4 to 6 p.m. in the Great Hall. The service will be held by Galilee
Baptist Church.\n\nLawson, who went by Josiah, was killed early Saturday
morning during a gathering that took place on the 1100 block of Spear Ave,
in Arcata.\n\nMembers of Lawson’s family will be arriving in the area on
Wednesday, and have asked for a campus vigil on Thursday. Student groups
and a number of offices on campus are working together to plan the vigil,
and more information including the location and time will be available
soon.\n\nThe family has also set up a GoFundMe account to raise funds for
funeral and transportation services. \n\nStudents in need of support or
help related to classes may contact the Office of the Dean of Students in
Siemens Hall room 211 or at 707-826-3504. For assistance any time, students
can contact Counseling & Psychological Services at 707-826-3236. Staff and
faculty seeking additional support may utilize the Employee Assistance
 Program at 707-443-7358.\n\n- - - - - - -\n\nIn Memory of David
Lawson\nhttps://www.gofundme.com/inhonorofDJ\n\nAs you may have heard, on
April 15, 2017 my son David "DJ" Lawson's life was taken before his time in
a senseless act of violence. DJ was the best son a mother can ask for.
\n\nFriends and Family talk about his smile that could brighten your day,
how considerate he was, how he treasured me "mom", his younger brother and
sister. \n\nHe was the kindest person I ever met. He did what was right
because it was right. He was protective of those he loved, and
compassionate of those he did not. \n\nI have never heard him say one bad
word about another human being. If you ever met a kinder person, I
challenge you to prove it.\n\nHe was a sophomore at Humboldt State
University studying criminal justice where he would have used his degree to
help the voiceless in the community.\n\nThe world has lost a bright and
shining star. Please continue to pray for me and my family as we go through
this unbearable loss.\n\nDJ was recently appointed President of BU
(Brothers United) at Humboldt University, and was an excellent upstanding
student. \n\nThe funds collected for DJ will go towards bringing DJ home
 and funeral services and expenses.\n\n- - - - - - -\n\n* Kyle Christopher
Zoellick, arrested by Arcata Police, has a history of violence. Rumor that
suspect might not be charged. \n\nKIEM TV reports: Murder suspect in HSU
student stabbing revealed\n\n"Reportedly, a fight broke out which left
 Lawson with multiple stab wounds."\n
