DESCRIPTION:Join us this Thursday when we will use a projector to paint the San
Francisco Federal Building with light. Last week, the president’s
administration proposed to cut all funding for the National Endowment for
the Arts, and the response of RefuseFascism.org is to shine the art Trump
fears on government property. \n\nArt endangers fascist leaders. It can
express ideas that oppose the government’s narrative. In times when
authority tries to deny all opposing views as fake news, art can fight
propaganda with truth. For that reason, modern art was banned in Nazi
Germany and declared ‘degenerate.’\n\nLast week art on a billboard in
Phoenix, Arizona made national news. Depicting Trump’s face alongside
nuclear explosions and dollar signs in swastika iconography, the piece
combines many of the concerns people have of the current administration,
said creator of the image Karen Fiorito. Local activists with her blessing
will project her art and more onto the Federal Building.\n\nThe proposed
budget cut of the National Endowment of the Arts would save $148 million.
The cost of Melania living apart from her husband is a comparable amount,
between $100 and $182 million per year. Meanwhile, each of the
president’s vacations to Mar-a-Lego cost taxpayers around $3 million.
