DESCRIPTION:A brief overview of American Indians including information about tribes, 
 reservations and historical events that have shaped contemporary American 
 Indian experiences.\n\nThis talk is open to all members of our community. 
 We highly recommend it for area teachers as a primer for discussing 
 American Indians in the classroom.\n\nRebecca Hernandez Rosser has been the 
 Director of the American Indian Resource Center at UCSC since 2014, prior 
 to coming to Santa Cruz she served as Assistant Director of the American 
 Indian Studies Center at UCLA. Her academic research focuses on American 
 Indian identity constructs in the United States, Inter-Ethnic Relations and 
 Representation(s) of Native American People and Cultures in public space. 
 Under her leadership the UCSC American Indian Resource Center received a 
 2016 Chancellor’s Diversity Award in recognition of the People of Color 
 Sustainability Collective initiative that serves to raise awareness about 
 the contributions people of color have made and continue to make to the 
 environmental sustainability movement in general and at UCSC in
