 invites you to its 5th Annual Symposium: Our Songs Know Who We Are.\n\nOpen 
 to all, this urban retreat is a unique opportunity for our entire community 
 to come together in the Spirit of Life as we begin the academic year. Join 
 us for a day of learning, music, dialogue, ritual celebrations, food, art, 
 music, service, and community-building celebrating as we cultivate 
 multi-religious, counter-oppressive, just and sustainable communities. 
 Symposium 2016 is convened by Dean Dr. Gabriella Lettini in collaboration 
 with other Starr King faculty and community leaders.\n\nThis year we are 
 pleased to have Dr. Ysaye M. Barnwell as Our Honored Teacher. In the last 
 year Dr. Barnwell has given a TED Talk (http://bit.ly/2aotFQQ), appeared in 
 a UU World article (http://bit.ly/1UxYYH7), and been selected by President 
 Obama to serve on the National Council of the Arts (http://bit.ly/1XCLxbn). 
 She is a commissioned composer, arranger, author, actress, professor, and 
 former member of the African American female a cappella ensemble Sweet 
 Honey In The Rock. For almost thirty years, and on three continents, Dr. 
 Barnwell has led the workshop Building a Vocal Community – Singing In the 
 African American Tradition, which utilizes oral tradition, an African world 
 view and African American history, values, cultural and vocal traditions to 
 build communities of song among singers and non-singers alike. Needless to 
 say, her pedagogy is highly respected among musicians, educators, health 
 workers, activists, organizers, and members of the corporate and non-profit 
 sectors.\n\nRegistration is open to the general public through August 19th, 
 and costs $125 per person. Tickets are limited and early registration is
