DESCRIPTION:As an occasional guest at PASMC events, political economist Jack Rasmus
always has a unique perspective on the national and world economy, and on
Sunday, June 12, we will again seek his view of what to look for and what
forces will operate that could determine our economic future. Dr. Rasmus's
talk is entitled, "Why the Global Economy is Slowing and the U.S. Is
Heading for Another Recession".\n\nDr. Rasmus will cover themes such as
downward economic trends around the world, and the manipulation of facts
and figures sometimes employed by official entities to dress up the
numbers. He will of course focus on the U.S. economy and offer a not-often
seen picture of our job market, investment trends and consumption trends,
resulting in a situation of slow growth.\n\nWhat are the causes? What part
of what Dr. Rasmus calls the "epic recession" of 2007-2009 has to do with a
slow economy? What kinds of policies are in place that hinder a healthier
situation? He will try to answer these questions and more on June
12.\n\nWith a new set of national elections coming up, he also will offer
prospects that a new administration and Congress might face - and a picture
of an electorate poised to register its dissatisfaction with the economic
status quo.\n\nDr. Jack Rasmus has a Ph. D in Political Economy and teaches
economics and politics at St. Mary's College in Moraga. He is the author
and producer of various fictional and nonfiction works...the latest of
which, from earlier this year, is called "Systemic Fragility in the Global
Economy". Dr. Rasmus will have copies of the book to sell at one-third off
the regular price.\n\nThe June 12 event is at 7 PM at the Unitarian
Universalists of San Mateo, 300 E. Santa Inez Avenue (at Ellsworth - the
side on which people should enter) in San Mateo. Admission is free,
contributions will be welcome. The UUSM is wheelchair accessible.\n\nFree,
 contributions welcome.\n
