DESCRIPTION:SANTA CRUZ JEWISH FILM FESTIVAL\nApril 30, May 2 & May 4\nMark your
calendars and save the dates! \n \nThe Santa Cruz Jewish Film Festival
returns to Temple Beth El and the Del Mar Theater\nApril 30 to May 4 with
six excellent films from the U.S., Canada, Europe, and Israel. \nScreenings
at the Del Mar Theater are FREE and open to the public. Seating is
limited, however.\n\nThe festival opens at Temple Beth El, 3055 Porter
Gulch Road, Aptos, on Saturday, April 30 at 5:30 PM with ROSENWALD, the
story of the high school dropout who rose to become President of Sears
Roebuck and used his wealth to make a difference, building 5,300 schools
for underserved black kids during the Jim Crow era. This is his obscure
but inspiring story.\nAt 7:30 PM there will be a reception followed by the
screening of FLORY’S FLAME, a celebration of Sephardic musician and
composer Flory Jagoda. \nAdmission for opening night, including two movies
and the reception, is just $15. \n\nThe festival continues on Monday, May
2, at the Del Mar Theater in downtown Santa Cruz with FREE showings of the
Israeli romantic drama VICE VERSA at 6:45 PM and the Canadian drama NATASHA
at 8:00 PM. \nIn VICE VERSA a rabbinical student tries to bring a
rebellious 18-year old cancer patient back into the fold. The awkward
meeting becomes a love story that transcends religion and society.\nIn
NATASHA, a garish Russian woman and her 14-year old daughter Natasha
immigrate to Toronto for the mother’s third marriage. Natasha’s
listless, pot-dealing, 16-year old cousin Mark is assigned to show the girl
around. But the girl from Moscow has a scandalous past. Rated R for
explicit sex and drug use. No one under 18 will be admitted to NATASHA
unless accompanied by a parent or guardian. \n\nThe festival concludes
on Yom HaShoah, Holocaust Remembrance Day, Wednesday, May 4, at the Del Mar
Theater with two moving films of remembrance. At 6:45 PM RUN BOY RUN tells
the extraordinary true story of a Polish boy’s struggle to outlast the
Nazis and keep alive his Jewish faith. Nine-year old Srulik escapes the
Warsaw ghetto and flees to the woods to survive, but the harsh winter
forces him to seek help from farmers and villagers and risk betrayal.
Srulik’s riveting journey comes to a riveting climax.\nThe festival
concludes with NICKY’S FAMILY at 8:00 PM. Nicholas Winton, an unassuming
English stockbroker, engineered the rescue of over 600 Jewish Czech and
Slovak children just before the outbreak of World War II. \n\nAll shows are
FREE at the Del Mar Theater. Seating is limited. ARRIVE EARLY to assure
admission.\n \n*Venues:\nTemple Beth El: 3055 Porter Gulch Road, Aptos
