DESCRIPTION:M.E.Ch.A. de Santa Rosa Junior College (SRJC) is proud to announce that the 
 2016 Youth Conference will be organized by a group of student organizations 
 that include: M.E.Ch.A (Movimiento Estudiantil Chicanista de Aztlan) de 
 SRJC, Black Student Union of SRJC and Sonoma State University (SSU), SRJC 
 Undocumented Student Union, SRJC Inter-Tribal Council, SRJC Puente, 
 Achieving Academic Success (LEA) and Raizes Collectivas. With the 
 successful collaboration last year between M.E.Ch.A. de SRJC and SRJC Black 
 Student Union, this year the organizations agreed that it was necessary to 
 incorporate additional student organizations in order to reach out to a 
 larger population of underrepresented students. The 2016 Youth Conference 
 will continue to expand to educating and promoting parents and community 
 about the importance of higher education and political involvement. \n\nOur 
 theme for the 2016 Youth Conference revolves around the quote “They tried 
 to bury us, but they didn’t know we were seeds.” We hope that our theme 
 will encourage students to learn more about their history and culture, 
 understanding how to decolonize their minds, while viewing their education 
 as a practice of liberation and service for their families and communities. 
 The conference will also raise awareness about the social and political 
 inequalities facing disadvantaged populations, as well as to provide 
 students, parents and our community with the resources to efficiently face 
 these issues and be ready for a social movement. \n\n
