DESCRIPTION:3/8 Women's Day Protest-UESF ‘Bread & Roses’ Speak Out at the Board of
Education\nMarch 8th: UESF ‘Bread & Roses’ Speak Out at the Board of
 Education\nhttp://www.uesf.org/march8-speakout/#more-4645\nFollowing SFUSD
Denial of UESF Grievance on January Pay Raise\n\nGather at 5:30 p.m. @ 555
Franklin\nRSVP here\n\nJoin UESF elected women leaders and rank-and-file
activists as we gather for a “Bread and Roses speak out at the Board of
Education on March 8th, International Women’s Day.\n\nThe speak out has
been called following the SFUSD’s denial on Tuesday of the grievance we
filed on the district’s failure to implement the January wage increase
for all employees.\n\nAccording to district representatives, the 1.5% raise
will be included for the affected members starting with the next pay period
at the end of February. However, the SFUSD has not committed to back pay
for the raise that should have been included for the month of January. For
a typical teacher the amount in dispute is between $60-80.\n\nWhile $60-80
may not seem like such a big deal to those at 555 Franklin, it is a matter
of respect for the educators who do the work in the classroom, especially
as the affordability crisis rages out of control.\n\nIn addition to calling
on the Board to honor the agreed upon wage increase for all UESF members,
we will also call on the Board and the administration to properly budget
for wage reopeners this fall. The affordability crisis, coupled with the
growing teacher and para shortage, continues to undermine the stability of
our schools and negatively impact our students. Budgeting for wages that
give all UESF members, women and men included, a fighting chance to live in
the City in which we serve should be a priority for the SFUSD. Save the
date!\n\nMore on the January Pay Raise Grievance\n\nOn January 29th UESF
Senior Staff Rep Eric Hall filed a grievance with the district on their
decision not to implement the 1.5% wage increase for all members on January
1st, as stated in the contract. The grievance covers all TK-12 certificated
staff hired after 1994, all Early Education certificated staff, and any
other member who did not receive their pay raise.\n\nOn Tuesday, the UESF
office received a letter from the SFUSD Department of Labor Relations
denying the grievance. UESF will soon request mediation over the denied
grievance to attempt to resolve the matter. If unsuccessful, it is most
 likely to go to arbitration.\n
