DESCRIPTION:The newly emerging "Interfaith Committee in Solidarity with Black Lives
Matter--Bay Area" is hosting a vigil and candle-lit funeral procession on
the Friday afternoon preceding Martin Luther King Day weekend. \n\nThis
action will call on Oakland city officials and residents alike to see,
connect with, and mourn the Black and Brown lives lost to police violence
as well as the losses born by communities of color in Oakland as a result
of over-policing, displacement, and gentrification. It will also put City
Hall on notice that they can expect continued pressure from Oakland's faith
community to prioritize Black and Brown lives by reallocating money toward
affordable housing and alternatives to over-policing.\n\nSchedule: \n\n4pm
Reflective time with the coffins (Join a Jewish shiva, Buddhist
meditation, or other rituals, or just have some quiet time with coffins
symbolizing those killed by police in the Bay area this year)\n\n4:30pm
Short program featuring spoken word, hip hop, as well as prayer\n5pm
Candle-lit funeral procession, followed by altar-building\n\nWe will walk
approximately 3/4 mile together. This is an elder- and child-friendly
event, and our pace will reflect that. A transport vehicle is available for
those who cannot walk that far.\n\n*** This action is a response to the
callout for 96 Hours of Direct Action to Reclaim King's Radical
 Legacy.\n\nhttp://www.facebook.com/events/738319126299522/\n\n
