DESCRIPTION:Wherever There’s A Fight - A History of Civil Liberties in
California\n\nJoin us for the opening of this traveling exhibition
presented by Exhibit Envoy & Cal Humanities. \n\nSpanning the period from
the California Gold Rush to the post-9/11 eras, Wherever There’s a Fight
showcases the stories of heroes and heroines throughout California who
stood up for their rights in the face of social hostility, physical
violence, and economic hardship. Some became well-known voices and
activists, such as author Upton Sinclair and concert artist and actor Paul
Robeson; others were ordinary people capable of extraordinary acts, who
fought violations of their civil liberties, reflecting the prejudices and
political winds of the times.\n\nDesigned for general audiences, the
exhibition poses questions that go to the root of civil liberties, tapping
the imagination with historical information, archival photographs, imagery,
and insightful quotes. The narrative explores our Constitutional rights and
a history of discrimination. Topics include: citizenship, slavery, voting,
land ownership, unlawful arrests, dissension, religion, censorship, and
 education.\n https://www.indybay.org/newsitems/2016/01/05/18781533.php
