DESCRIPTION:When National Security Agency whistleblower Edward Snowden fled to Hong 
 Kong in 2013 after revealing documents detailing extensive surveillance of 
 Americans, he contacted film director, producer and cinematographer Laura 
 Poitras and journalist Glenn Greenwald.\n\nPoitras was already personally 
 familiar with being watched closely, because of a television documentary 
 she made about the U.S. occupation of Iraq in 2006 that landed her on a 
 Department of Homeland Security watch list as a high security threat. 
 Snowden's initial emails to Poitras were under the pseudonym "Citizenfour", 
 and the eventual result was her Oscar- and Emmy-winning documentary of the 
 same name.\n\nOn Sunday, November 22, PASMC will present a free screening 
 of "Citizenfour" - for those who may have missed its relatively brief run 
 in theatres, or who would just like to get a second look and share thoughts 
 about it with other concerned folks. We will begin our program at 7 PM at 
 the Unitarian Universalists of San Mateo, 300 E. Santa Inez Avenue in San 
 Mateo. The UUSM is wheelchair accessible.\n\nThe film's premise largely 
 involves Snowden's interviews with Poitras and Greenwald, and the process 
 the three go through to get the story told in a way that focuses on the 
 NSA's actions and tactics - and its implications for Americans' civil 
 liberties and privacy. It is a film driven by the desire to tell that 
 story, and the many awards it has received suggest an effective 
 project.\n\nWe hope to see you on the 22nd for the San Mateo screening of 
 this important film, "Citizenfour".\n
