DESCRIPTION:Bassem Tamimi is an internationally recognized human rights activist from
the West Bank village of Nabi Saleh, where weekly demonstrations challenge
Israel’s illegal confiscation of land and water for a neighboring Israeli
settlement. Tamimi has been detained by the Israeli military several times,
once spending three years in detention without trial. In 1993, as a result
of interrogation by the Israeli Shin Bet, he was left unconscious for eight
days and partially paralyzed for months to follow.\n\nHe has been described
by the EU as a human rights defender and Amnesty International demanded his
release as a prisoner of conscious. In 2013, the Tamimi family was featured
in a New York Times Magazine cover story, and on August 30, 2015 they made
national US headlines when videos of Bassem’s wife and daughter
preventing the assault and arrest of their son/brother by an Israeli
soldier went viral over social media.\n\nAs part of his 2015 U.S. speaking
tour, Tamimi has several dates in the Bay Area to speak about his
village’s work for freedom and justice.\n\nFind, join and share the
Facebook event!\n\nFOR MORE INFO contact JVP at jvp-bayarea.org or
