DESCRIPTION:If you are interested in learning what Yemen really is, to those who have
experienced it, join us in San Francisco on Saturday, September 12th, 2015
at the American Friends Service Committee as we explore the answers to this
question. \n\nCome and enjoy a great display of photographs by Yemeni
photographers, in addition to four short films and documentaries, all
working together to demonstrate what Yemen is. 'Yemen As We See It' is a
chance to experience what Yemen is to a Yemeni, a chance to overcome the
barriers of language, culture, and geography. In addition to the art,
samples of the unique cuisine will be offered in order to give you a
literal taste of Yemen. \n\nThe photographs displayed will be available for
purchase, and the proceeds will go towards assisting efforts made to better
the future of Yemen. Entry is free of charge, but donations are much
appreciated!\n\nFeatured Videos: \n-Days in the Heart of the Revolution,
part 6: Al-Hudaydah. By Ammar Basha, 2013.\nFilmmaker Ammar Basha started
shooting his documentary series Days in the Heart of the Revolution in
2011, as the uprising against President 'Ali Saleh was beginning. This
installment in the series documents the economic, political, and ecological
pressures facing residents of the Red Sea coast city of al-Hudaydah, who
depend on fishing and shipping for their livelihoods.\n-The Jambeya: Yemen
from the Waist of a Man. By Sara al-Zawqari, 2014.\nThis cultural
documentary examines the history and importance of the jambeya, the
ceremonial dagger worn by Yemeni men.\n-Farha& Light Dreams are two films
that were submitted to The Yemen Film Festival (2003): Filmmakers between
the ages of 13-15 were encouraged to create films in order to encourage
skills and youthful participation in filmmaking\n
