DESCRIPTION:Special screening & discussion marking the 10th Anniversary of Hurricane
Katrina.\n\nCome Hell or High Water: The Battle for Turkey Creek follows
the painful but inspiring journey of Derrick Evans, a Boston teacher who
moves home to coastal Mississippi when the graves of his ancestors are
bulldozed to make way for the sprawling city of Gulfport. Over the course
of a decade, Derrick and his neighbors stand up to powerful corporate
interests and politicians and face ordeals that include Hurricane Katrina
and the BP oil disaster in their struggle for self-determination and
environmental justice.\n\nJoin us for this free screening and conversation
about how this story of environmental disaster and grassroots leadership
speaks to challenges faced by Bay Area communities, and hopes for the
future. After the film, join a conversation with filmmaker Leah Mahan,
moderator Milton Reynolds of Facing History and Ourselves, and young people
engaged with Literacy for Environmental Justice as Eco-stewards of Bayview
Hunters Point.\n\nThis is a free event, seating is limited.\n\nSponsored by
Literacy for Environmental Justice. Co-Sponsored by EcoCenter at Heron's
Head Park and SF Green Film Festival.\n\nEvent Details:
