DESCRIPTION:Come join a discussion of what happens when liberation theology meets
process thought in the context of San Francisco's hyper-agitated real
estate market. This is an on-going discussion in its third week. \n\nIn
week 1 we discussed MLK's sermons and talks identifying his conviction that
a moral basis underlies the constructive betterment of society.\n\nIn week
2 we read later sermons and talks of MLK's asserting that the constructive
betterment of society is a process. Further, we discussed Alfred North
Whitehead's "process thought" philosophy as an elaborated complement to
MLK's observation that social change is co-generated by all members of
community.\n\nIn week 3 anticipate discussion of MLK's unsolidified
thoughts on reconciling the uplifting of the individual with a public
policy robustly addressing institutional favortism. \n\nMartin Luther King,
jr. formulated a liberating civil disobedience based upon a theology of
transformative love. Alfred North Whitehead formulated a philosophy of life
based upon ever evolving relationships from the electron on up through
nebular systems. We wonder if transformative love isn't a species of
evolving creative relationship and further, we wonder if rising land values
in the Bay Region aren't but a reflection of the emergent quality of
social, economic, and political relationships.\n\nIf so, then land values
are a process of society, not a manufacture of individuals, and
consequently to divorce land rents from the public good is lousy
philosophy, corrosive public policy, and derelict theology.\n\nJoin The
Commons SF in generating a metaphysics that informs public action in
constituting a just society. This is a roundtable discussion moderated by a
reader and admirer of both King and Whitehead. One does not need to have
read either to participate, but discussion will be moderated to stay on
 topic.\n\n https://www.indybay.org/newsitems/2015/06/28/18774164.php
