DESCRIPTION:Join the Santa Cruz Group of the Ventana Chapter of the Sierra Club for an
evening talk with Leonie Sherman titled "Bicycling Across Cuba." If you
like travel adventure stories that include bicycling, salsa dancing, caves,
and waterfalls, you don't want to miss this event! \n\nThe slideshow will
take place Thursday, July 16, at the Live Oak "Green" Grange (1900 17th
Avenue, Santa Cruz). Doors open at 6:30pm for refreshments and social time,
and the event will begin at 7:00pm.\n\nABOUT THE PRESENTATION\nIn the
summer of 2006, Leonie Sherman and Tanya Stiller rode bikes and
occasionally hitch-hiked across Cuba. In six weeks they learned to salsa,
suffered from heat exhaustion, were placed under house arrest and heard the
true story behind sexual assault in Cuba. Along the way Fidel got sick and
they explored a little known eco-tourist haven with roaring waterfalls and
immense cave systems. Come hear Leonie tell stories and answer questions
about this rapidly changing island nation.\n\nABOUT LEONIE SHERMAN\nLeonie
Sherman has hiked, biked, climbed and ridden horses on four continents. She
is an adventure writer, self-defense instructor and intrepid lover of all
things wild. Come hear why Cuba stands out among the over thirty countries
she has visited.\n\nTRANSPORTATION\nPlease try to arrive sustainably by
walking, bicycling, taking the bus, or carpooling. You can offer or request
rides on our MeetUp page here:
 http://www.meetup.com/Santa-Cruz-Sierra-Club/events/223380625/\n\nFor more
information about this event, please contact Outreach Coordinator Melissa
at melissa.ott@sierraclub.org.\n\nAll photos provided by Leonie Sherman.\n
