DESCRIPTION:Presentation and discussion on \nConstitution, Law, and Rights - in
capitalist society and in the future socialist society, selections from the
writings of Bob Avakian and excerpts from the Constitution for the New
Socialist Republic in North America (Draft Proposal) from the Revolutionary
Communist Party, USA.\n\nMany claim the U.S. Constitution is a model for
all societies because it protects "freedom: and peoples' rights." Yet,
under this system, murder by police is rampant, millions of people are
incarcerated, and there is not, and there can be no basic rights necessary
for survival -- like a "right to eat." But why is this?\n\nWhat role does
the U.S. Constitution and legal system play in reinforcing exploitation and
oppression? How is it the legal underpinning of today's capitalist
society?\n\nSome accuse communism of stripping peoples' individual rights.
But how does Bob Avakian's new synthesis of communism actually give far
greater scope to human freedom and the protection of individual rights?
What legal structure is outlined in the Constitution for a New Socialist
Republic? \nIn comparing and contrasting the concepts of constitution, law,
and rights under both capitalism and socialism, what are the profound
differences in social content and role?\n\nBring your thoughts and your
 comments to the discussion!\n\n
