DESCRIPTION:Atheist Alliance International is working to secure the rights of atheists
in countries where they are persecuted.\n\nJoin Bay Area Humanists in this
discussion of Atheist Alliance International (AAI). AAI is an organization
that helps those who are trying to bring about secular societies in
countries where religion is so strong that the governments are legally, or
de facto, theocracies. Stuart Bechman will discuss AAI activities
including building secular schools in Africa, assisting those who establish
atheist organizations and opposing laws, such as blasphemy laws, that
attempt to silence those who wish promote secular societies and giving aid
to those arrested or otherwise persecuted because they are non-believers.
He will address the desirability of atheist and humanist organizations to
bond together to promote secular societies. Karl Karnadi will describe how
he established an atheist Facebook group in Indonesia and the persecution
that atheists endure there. Melita Granger will also present her
involvement with AAI. \n \nAll three of the speakers are on the board of
AAI. The national origins of the speakers attest to the international
character of AAI. Karl is form Indonesia, Melita from Australia, and
Stuart from southern California.\n\nThe event will be at the Glen Park
library at 3 PM on Saturday March 1. For more information and to RSVP go
 to our meetup page (www.meetup.com/sfhumanits).\n\n
