DESCRIPTION:Public Meeting Commemorating Black History Month\nBreaking the Silence
National Tour\n\nMore than six million people have been killed in the
Democratic Republic of Congo (formerly Zaire) over the past 15 years. The
United Nations says it is the deadliest conflict in the world since World
War Two. In the wake of the conflict, US-backed despots have kept the
people of the region in a virtual death trap. \nCongolese youth are rising
up to change the equation under the guise of the #Telema Movement (Rise up
in Lingala).\n\nWe have a very special guest directly from the Congo to
give a first-hand account of why the #Telema movement is vital to the
future of the Congo and Africa. Ben Kabamba of the Youth For A New Society
was at the forefront of the latest uprising in the Congo on January 19 - 22
that claimed 42 lives at the hands of Congo's security forces. \n \nMr.
Kabamba will be joined by Maurice Carney, co-founder & Executive Director
of the Friends of the Congo, who recently returned from the Congo. He will
also provide eyewitness account of this rarely covered part of the world
where the CIA overthrew Congo's first elected Prime Minister and
Independence hero, Patrice Emery Lumumba.\n\nDiscussion will follow
presentations.\n\n$5-10 donation (no one turned away for lack of
 funds)\nWheelchair accessible. Refreshments provided.\n\n
