DESCRIPTION:This festival celebrates International Women’s Day. Films are:\n\nFire 
 (2:30-4:20), the 1996 Indian-Canadian romantic drama film written and 
 directed by well known Indian director Deepa Mehta is one of the first 
 mainstream films in India to explicitly show homosexual relations, setting 
 off enormous public dialogue and protest. “Fire” dispels the myth of a 
 happy middle-class family, disclosing the simmering cauldron of discontent 
 within the family, with almost every family member living a lie as both 
 marriages in the family turn out to be emotionally empty, without love or 
 passion.\n\nSilkwood (4:45-7:00) is a riveting film based on the true story 
  of Karen Silkwood, a metallurgy worker at a plutonium processing plant who 
 was purposefully contaminated, psychologically tortured and possibly 
 murdered to prevent her from exposing blatant worker safety violations at 
 the plant.  \n\nAtomic Mom (7:30-8:50) is a story of an American scientist 
 and a Hiroshima survivor finding peace decades after the bombing.  It 
 inspires dialogue about human rights, personal responsibility, and the 
 possibility and hope of peace. Atomic Mom is a feature-length documentary 
 film about two women, both mothers, who have very different experiences of 
 the atom bomb. One mother, Pauline Silvia, who is one of the few women 
 scientists who participated in Nevada Test site detonations, has a crisis 
 of conscience about the work she did involving animal testing and reveals 
 some of the grim and dark secrets of the U.S. atomic testing.
