DESCRIPTION:Asa Sullivan was 25 years old when the San Francisco Police Department
entered a residence where he was staying on June 6, 2006. Entering without
a search warrant and as part of a "well being" call, the SFPD located Asa
crouched in an attic crawlspace, and shot him 17 times, killing him in the
attic.\n\nAsa's family, including his mother, Kathy Espinosa and Nicole
Guerra, mother of "Little Asa" (now 13 years old) have been steadfast in
the struggle for justice for Asa for 8 years to insure the case, and the
cops who killed Asa, appear in court. The family, together with the ongoing
support of La Mesha Irizarry and the Idriss Stelley Foundation and other
community members, have insured that Asa's memory stays alive in our
community spaces and across our struggles, and that the story and details
emerge of what happened to Asa at the hands of the SFPD that night in Parc
Merced. For 8 years, they have continued to challenge all efforts to keep
the case out of court.\n\nThe trial opened on September 8th and the family
has now been enduring day after day in court for nearly a month. Monday,
October 6th will be closing arguments from both legal teams. It will be an
informative and important day to be in the courtroom. Come support Asa's
family in their struggle for justice for Asa.\n\nFor more details on Asa's
life and the case, see for example:\n\nA beautiful writing by Asa's brother
Khalil and a response from their mother, Kat, that was published in the SF
Bayview Newspaper in 2009, "In that attic, I saw my brother's blood
 covering the floor and walls"\n\n

also an excellent piece by the Idriss Stelley Foundation posted on IndyBay
from 2008 that includes interviews with the family, "Tales of the Dark
Side: SFPD Shooting Death of Asa Sullivan, 21 months later..."
