DESCRIPTION:Twenty eight artists will share their personal vision of the landscape and
the road that takes us through it in Highway 2 - the journey and the
destination, a gallery art show opening at The Modest Fly Art Studio and
Gallery on September 27 2014.\n\nHighway 2 in California begins in the
city, but where it becomes the Angeles Crest Highway, its character
changes. It transforms. It takes on an air majestic; it sweeps us across
the rugged San Gabriels, a land of sometimes harsh extremes, all the way to
San Bernadino County, through the charming community of Wrightwood, and out
into the desert beyond.\n\nFor many southern California residents, their
childhood memories are wound around the places the highway takes us:
waterfalls, hiking trails, campgrounds, picnic areas. For others, the road
itself beckons.\n\nIn works ranging from small basketry pieces to expansive
canvases, the show includes Native American forest textile art,
photography, oil, acrylic and watercolor painting, sculpture, wood carving
and hand-crafted prints and paper art. It also includes two international
artists and the support of the local arts community at large.\n\nThe vision
behind the show is to bring together not only great art, but mutual respect
and understanding among forest visitors, users and even forest
residents…although they are vastly out-numbered by those who visit the
forest for a wide range of recreational pursuits, there are in fact people
who live year-round in the forest.\n\nThis first annual presentation of
Highway 2 - the journey and the destination debuts in Tujunga; the show’s
creator, Corina Roberts, has a vision for the effort that is already bigger
than its present space allows. Roberts wants to include a series of
presentations in conduction with the show, ranging from forest ecology and
Native American culture to highway safety and artist’s workshops.
\n\nThe Modest Fly Art Studio and Gallery will be full to capacity for the
opening show with the work of Momo Moonflower, Raquel Danieri, Hooman
Salari, Hock Hian Wong, Debby Beck, Shelley Matousek, Kimberly Ann Talbert,
David Cline, Darren Martinelli, Aaron Dooley, Corina Roberts, Ruth Dios,

and the destination is co-hosted by The Modest Fly Art Gallery and Studio
