DESCRIPTION:Dr. Anant Phadke discusses advocacy for health rights in public and private 
 health services in Maharashtra, India.\n\nEfforts by health activists in 
 Maharashtra, India in recent years have created Community-Based Monitoring 
 of Public Health Services, an innovative project that galvanizes the 
 villagers’ feedback and monitoring of the Public Health Service in about 
 1000 selected villages and culminates in yearly Public Accountability 
 Meetings.  A grassroots movement has led to the demand for civil society 
 participation in the regulation of private health services as well, and the 
 adoption of the Standard Charter of Patients’ Rights.\n\nDr. Anant Phadke 
 works with a number of organizations in the People’s Health and Science 
 Movement in India and is Founding Coordinator and Senior Advisor to 
 SATHI-CEHAT, a leading NGO in the movement for the right to health care.  
 He has contributed over 250 articles in English and Marathi and a few books
