DESCRIPTION:Ethnic History Film Series \n\nPrecious Knowledge\n\nThe Mexican American
Studies Program in the Tucson Unified School District of Arizona was a
model of success with 95 per cent of its enrolled students graduating from
high school. But state politicians and local officials, riding a wave of
anti-immigrant and racist sentiment, move to ban Mexican American Studies.
This sets off a firestorm of discussion by students and teachers, who take
their fight to the state capitol, holding protests, testifying before
lawmakers, and inviting lawmakers to visit them in the
classroom.\n\nDiscussion will follow the documentary film screening
\n\nFree and open to the public \n\nSponsored by the SJSU African American
Studies Department, African American Faculty & Staff Association, Dr.
Martin Luther King, Jr. Legacy Committee, Africana Center Advisory
Committee, MOSAIC Cross Cultural Center, House of Sankofaa, San Jose Peace
and Justice Center, All Africa People’s Revolutionary Party, South Bay
