DESCRIPTION:Ethnic History Film Series\n\nAl-Helm: Martin Luther King in
Palestine\n\nAn African-American choir travels to the West Bank of the
Occupied Palestinian Territories to perform in a play that brings Martin
Luther King Jr. and the civil rights struggle to a Palestinian audience.
Dr. Clay Carson, who runs the Martin Luther King, Jr. Research and
Education Institute at Stanford, went to Palestine for the performance of
his play about Dr. King by the Palestinian National Theatre. The film
brings a fresh perspective to the reality of Palestinian life under
occupation and ends in a tragedy eerily reminiscent of Dr. King’s
life.\n\nDiscussion will follow the documentary film screening\n\nFree and
open to the public\n\nSponsored by the SJSU African American Studies
Department, African American Faculty & Staff Association, Dr. Martin Luther
King, Jr. Legacy Committee, Africana Center Advisory Committee, MOSAIC
Cross Cultural Center, House of Sankofaa, San Jose Peace and Justice
Center, All Africa People’s Revolutionary Party, South Bay Jewish Voice
for Peace, and Colectivo Justicia San José (formerly Justice for Trayvon
 Martin – SJ) \n\n
