DESCRIPTION:As part of a series of local events connected to the SC Earth Day
Celebration in San Lorenzo Park, Fukushima Response SC will collect ocean
water samples with the help of local surfers. The public is welcome to
participate and learn more about what are "safe" radiation levels and how
increased radiation, background radiation and in our water and food,
effects our health and our genome.\n\nThe water will be tested by Woods
Hole Oceanographic Institute for Fukushima Radiation.\n\nSEE-- "How
Radioactive Is Our Ocean?"\nat Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute
 website--\nhttp://ourradioactiveocean.com/\n\nFukushima Response
 website--\nhttp://www.fukushimaresponse.org/Home.html\n\nThis collection is
timed to provide benchmark radiation levels of different isotopes so they
may be compared to the Fukushima radiation plume levels that is expected to
arrive along the West Coast later this year and into next year. This is
part of a publicly funded ocean water testing program which is being done
all along the West Coast from Alaska, Canada, Washington, Oregon to
Southern California.\n\nFederal agencies are not doing any testing as EPA
safe isotope exposure levels have been increased by hundreds of times in
2013. \n\nThe $500 cost for this test was from an anonymous resident of
Santa Cruz County. More collections for testing will occur periodically
this year depending on availability of funds.\n
