DESCRIPTION:Join YTH, REACH Ashland Youth Center, and the Level Playing Field Institute 
 in this unique event to bridge the digital opportunity gap for 
 underrepresented youth (particularly young people of color) and underserved 
 communities.\n\nHealth Hackathon winners will showcase their ideas in San 
 Francisco on April 6 2014 at YTH Live http://ythlive.org the premier annual 
 conference for technology innovation serving youth health and 
 wellness.\n\n\nVOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES\n\nDevelopers: We’re looking for 
 20 of you! You will each be assigned to a team of 5 youth hackers for the 
 weekend. Don’t worry – we’ll train you. Keep Thursday night, April 
 3rd open. Requires experience with tech, IT, engineering, past hackathons, 
 or related experience. You’ll need to stay for the whole weekend – 
 it’s okay, though, once you’re there you won’t want to 
 leave.\n\nYouth Mentor: We’re looking for 20 of you! You will each be 
 assigned to a team of 5 youth hackers (and one developer) for the weekend 
 to provide team facilitation and support. Don’t worry – we’ll train 
 you.  Keep Thursday night, April 3rd open. Requires experience working with 
 youth, youth development, mentoring, group facilitation, or related 
 experience. You’ll need to stay for the whole weekend – it’s okay, 
 though, once you’re there you won’t want to leave.\n\nGeneral 
 Volunteer: General volunteers are needed and appreciated for all other 
 on-site duties, including assistance with handing out t-shirts, organizing 
 food, etc. General volunteers are not required to be present throughout the 
 entire event, and any time that they can contribute is welcome in scheduled 
 segments throughout the weekend. No training or prior experience is 
 required.\n\n \nPARTNERS\n\nYTH http://yth.org\n\nYTH will be the primary 
 coordinator for the event. YTH will provide the volunteers as well as the 
 health tech experts and peers to frame the issues the young coders will try 
 to solve. YTH will coordinate the fundraising, communications, and live 
 tweeting and social media during the event. YTH will be responsible for 
 connecting the hackathon to our conference, YTH Live, April 6-8th in San 
 Francisco, by providing job openings, funding opportunities, and networking 
 connections to the grand prize winning teams.\n\n\nREACH Ashland Youth 
 Center http://reachashland.org\n\nREACH is a state of the art facility in 
 unincorporated Ashland within Alameda County. It is open to all residents 
 of Alameda County aged 11-24. REACH has programs for recreation, education, 
 arts, career, and health & wellness (mental health, physical health and 
 dental health) and partnerships with the County Departments of Health, 
 Probation, Library, with local school districts, and more. Opened in June 
 of 2013, REACH already has over 2,000 registered members, that are very 
 diverse, including a large number of Latino and African American youth. 
 REACH will provide the facility and associated services (security, 
 janitorial, etc.) for the Hackathon, as well as marketing and promotion to 
 their members to recruit 100 young people to participate.\n\n\nThe Level 
 Playing Field Institute http://lpfi.org\n\nThe Level Playing Field 
 Institute is committed to eliminating the barriers faced by 
 underrepresented people of color in science, technology, engineering and 
 math (STEM) and fostering their untapped talent for the advancement of our 
 nation. The Level Playing Field Institute will provide the tech and design 
 thinking training for volunteers and youth participants.\n
