DESCRIPTION:PASMC will present Oakland activist Matthew Kellegrew, social justice 
 advocate and Legal Fellow for the Bill of Rights Defense 
 Committee.\n\nKellegrew's talk is entitled "National Threats To Civil 
 Liberties And The Local Solutions That Can Stop Them". He will focus on how 
 aerial drones, NSA spying, fusion centers and political spying can be 
 opposed with grassroots action and what he calls "transpartisan" coalition 
 building. Kellegrew will endeavor to make connections between such 
 excessive surveillance and the "war on terror" that has dominated our 
 country's politics since 2001 and beyond. He will also talk about measures, 
 including state-level legislation, upon which people can take 
 action.\n\nThe event begins at 7 PM at the Unitarian Universalists of San 
 Mateo, 300 E. Santa Inez Avenue (at Ellsworth) in San Mateo. Admission is 
 free, contributions will be welcome. The UU is wheelchair 
 accessible.\n\nMatthew Kellegrew is a recent graduate of the Golden Gate 
 University Law School, with a specialization in Public Interest Law. 
 Kellegrew served as the Student Chair of the school's National Lawyer's 
 Guild chapter, as well as the Bay Area Law School Vice President of the 
 NLG. During law school he interned at Justice Now where he conducted policy 
 work to end the practice of forced sterilizations in California Women's 
 Prisons; for both civil and criminal attorneys on cases related to police 
 abuse during Occupy Oakland; and for the San Francisco Public Defender's 
 Office. Kellegrew is also active in his Oakland community.\n\nDon't miss
