DESCRIPTION:It's time for our 5th Annual World Naked Bike Ride - San Francisco Southern
Hemisphere Edition. In support of our bare brethren south of the equator,
last year we had another large turnout for the 4 years of riding bare in
the late winter, early spring through the city. It was another warm day for
the March ride, about as warm as the main June ride with temperatures in
the high 60's. It is time to bring your bikes to Justin Herman Plaza
between Market Street & the Embarcadero Blvd and participate in this
international protest of our dependency on the evil oil cartels.\n\nWe meet
on the northeast side of Vaillancourt Fountain, between the fountain and
Embarcadero Blvd at 11 AM. Bring body paints, washable markers, watercolors
or other easily removed media to apply slogans and designs to your bodies
if you wish. Our meeting time permits you about an hour to do paint, prep
your bikes with signs and meet with old and new friends.\n\nWhile it is a
"naked" bike ride, all are welcome; it's ride as bare as you dare. There is
a twist to the WNBR last year. The city of San Francisco Board of
Supervisors just passed an anti-nudity ordinance that has an as yet unknown
impact on our ride. Nudity is still allowed in events like Bay To Breakers
and the Folsom Fair, which are operated under permits. It is our position
that as a social & political protest we would have First Amendment
protection. But this would require citations and a court challenge. There
might be a number of riders willing to challenge the constitutionality of
the law and therefore it is ride bare at your own risk. For most of us that
want to remain inside the boundaries of this new ordinance, it will require
a minimal coverage of the genital regions. That means, body paint, rubber
latex, bikinis, topless, lingerie, bubble pack, whatever costume you are
comfortable riding with to achieve to maximum effect of least coverage or
to simply ride at what level of coverage\nyou are comfortable with. Aside
from our reserved feelings, all 4 WNBR's were successful, with full nudity
and no citations. The SFPD even had liaisons present to iron out any
details regarding the ride and the new ordinance.\n\nOur ride is part of a
global protest taking place today in many cities throughout the US, Europe
and other cities in the Northern Hemisphere. Tens of thousands of naked
bike riders are protesting the global dependency of our society and
economies at the hands of the oil cartels. We want to emphasize the harm
this dependency causes to our environment, businesses and social lives.
Nobody is unaffected. We want to endorse more bike riding and our nudity
expresses our vulnerability to these matters. It also draws attention to
our cause.\n\nWe will ride through many popular spots in the city such as
Fisherman's Wharf, the Marina, along the Embarcadero, the Civic Center, and
if it is warm enough, Ocean Beach, plus many more places of interest. It's
great fun and an event you shouldn't miss.\n\nDon't forget to visit our

 future WNBRs\nhttps://www.facebook.com/wnbrsf\n
