DESCRIPTION:Alameda County Green Sunday Will Address Key Community Issues\n\nFebruary
6, 2014 (Oakland, CA) — Green Party former Mayoral candidate Don Macleay
will present a moderated discussion Sunday February 9, 5 pm at the
Niebyl-Proctor Marxist Library, 6501 Telegraph Ave in Oakland, to lay out a
proposed platform for Oakland City Government where he calls for getting
corporate money out of elections, a police commission,\nand taxing the
port, among other things.\n\nDon Macleay will answer these questions,
followed by a moderated discussion:\n● What do Oakland residents need out
of their local government?\n● What is the status of the government we
have now?\n● What policies could progressives pursue for the common
good?\n● What should our candidates call for in this next
election?\n\nThe Green Party of Alameda County prioritizes policies and
initiatives that support community health and vibrancy, rather than ones
that militarize and criminalize. “We need Oakland city\npolicies that
think twice before sending someone to the vicious circle of our criminal
justice system,” says Donald Macleay, who was a Green Party candidate for
Mayor of Oakland in 2010\nand Green Party Candidate for City Council
District 1 in 2012. “We should be welcoming people coming back into our
community when they come home from our failed corrections
systems.”\n\nThe Green Party of Alameda County, part of the East Bay
Region of the Green Party of California, has over 10,000 registered members
who live in the Oakland / Berkeley / Emeryville / Alameda area. We have
been active for over 15 years, hold monthly meetings and “Green
Sundays” on the second Sunday evening of each month at Niebyl-Proctor
Library in Oakland, and host conferences, public events, and gatherings for
up to 1000 people in the Bay Area.\n\nGreen Sundays are a series of free
programs and discussions sponsored by the Green Party of Alameda County.
They are held on the 2nd Sunday of each month. The monthly business meeting
of the County Council of the Green Party of Alameda County follows at 6:45
p.m. Council meetings are always open to anyone who is interested.\n
